The Silver Fern, Ponga is a tall tree fern native to rain forests of New Zealand. The fronds form a shuttlecock shape and turn silver as they age. Although called silver ferns, the undersides of the fronds are usually white and only ‘silver’ in some northern fern populations. The undersides reflect moonlight, making them useful aids to navigating bush pathways at night.
