A fantail carries a leaf of love beneath a crescent moon - golden beams shine all around, stars twinkle in the sky. Fantails are often seen as messengers, able to carry thoughts, love, or blessings across distance, even from the spirit world. A blessing, a thought for someone you love but may be apart from.
Amber Smith is a ceramic artist and print-maker based in Whakatū (Nelson). Her work draws inspiration from te ao Maori and the nature surrounding us in Aotearoa. Her ceramics and prints spread messages of love, hope and self-worth.
Her work contains Whakataukī (Maori proverbs) and waiata (Maori songs), both in te reo and English to educate and connect. The words are wise and uplifting and give a beautiful feeling to the art, carrying a positive message to give to yourself or another.
